A retreat in the fells

Quiet, together.

Three-day retreats in a stone farmhouse — long walks, wood-fired food and evenings with nowhere to be. The starlings come most dusks; so do we.

The retreat

Three days, no agenda.

Murmur is a farmhouse, ten guests, and a valley that doesn't get a phone signal until you climb for it. We cook, we walk, we sit by the fire — and the days arrange themselves around weather and appetite rather than a schedule.

Come alone or bring someone quiet. Both work.

A day here

What a day holds.

Held loosely, like everything else.

  1. The morning walk

Out after breakfast, back when the valley says so. Boots by the door in every size we've ever been left.

  2. The long table

Lunch is one pot, one loaf and whoever's back. Wood-fired, garden-fed, seconds assumed.

  3. The open afternoon

A book, a bath, the tarn if you're brave. The only rule is nobody has to join anything.

  4. Fireside

Dusk brings the starlings over the water, then supper, then the fire until the last person stops talking.

I slept nine hours both nights. I don't do that at home. I don't do that anywhere.
